Polovchanka from
Prince Igor, 1930 -
Classic Canvas Print
Premiering
before a St. Petersburg audience in 1890, Prince Igor
was left as an uncompleted opera by the composer Alexander Borodin when he
died in 1887. The score was edited and completed by Nikolai
Rimsky-Korsokov and Alexander Glazunov. This canvas print illustrates a
costume created by Ivan Bilibin in 1936. Bilibin was one of the
original founders of the Ballet Russes of Paris which is the
inspiration for this collection. Beautifully scripted caption reads:
"Opera Prince Igor by Borodin".
This illustration features the costume for one of the Polovtsian dancers,
called Polovchanka in this collection,
and captures the modern fashion that was the Russian opera of this era. Bilibin's modernist style makes this a wonderful choice for contemporary or
traditional interiors. Ideal gift for an opera lover or anyone
interested in fashion and costume. Framed in a delicate mahogany
frame and mounted to museum standards, the print is also available unframed with hand-stretched
canvas on an internal wood frame,
ready for hanging.
