Sea captains
were proud of their boats and often commissioned skilled artists to paint
their ships in the most advantageous aspect, under full sail, coming into a
favorite port. Details were extremely important to the captain and
artists who knew ships were careful not to omit a single detail. This
print of the Pallas of Portsmouth, is a fine example.
Beautifully scripted caption reads: "Ship Pallas of
Portsmouth, Captain Henry Brown leaving Marseilles July 1829". Mounted and
framed to museum standards, the print is also available unframed with hand-stretched
canvas on an internal wood frame,
ready for hanging.
